Library

"In a library we are surrounded by many hundreds of dear friends
imprisoned by an enchanter in paper and leathern boxes."
~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

Our library, the Colleen Nicholas Resource Center, is open each school day from 7:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. All students attend weekly classes at their designated library period. Weekly classes include library and research skills, literature appreciation, reading comprehension skills, and the structure of expository writing. All students have access to library materials and can check out books during any school day. A new, expanded library space allows for a larger library collection, space for entire classes to sit comfortably under natural lighting, and two computers with concurrent access to the school’s network and the internet.

Birthday Books

Honor your child with a gift. The Birthday Books program encourages families to give the gift of a new book to the library to celebrate their child’s birthday. Birthday Books 2011-2012

Book Fair

A Scholastic Book Fair is held each year during Parent Teacher Conference week. Profits from the Fair help renew and expand the library’s collection of books and videos. Volunteers are needed each year to work the Book Fair and parents should look to the weekly announcements for this parent hour opportunity.

Volunteers are Key

Volunteers are key to the operations of our library. If you would like to share your love of books and reading with children, please contact Mrs. Brown at mbrown@saintmaryschool.com. We would love to have you join our group of dedicated volunteers.

Books, to the reading child, are so much more than books -- they are dreams and knowledge, they are a future, and a past." (1940)
