Every student has the opportunity to succeed and excel within the St. Mary School environment. The Resource Program is a service for students who profit from the regular classroom curriculum, but require special assistance in areas of language arts or math. We provide small group or individual instruction for students who need it, with the belief that academic performance can be improved dramatically. The resource program also provides enrichment opportunities for advanced students in math. Students may have time in the Learning Center scheduled during the school day, and/or after school tutoring is available. Our goals are: - To target the primary grades at the beginning of each school year in order to identify as early as possible any academic problems or skill deficiencies in reading or math. Remedial groups are scheduled concurrently with classroom reading/math so students do not miss instructional time in other curriculum areas.
- To assess the special needs of upper grade students upon referral so that appropriate resource placement or tutoring can be provided in areas of language arts and math.
- To accommodate the needs of advanced students in 3 rd grade and above by providing math enrichment classes.
- To provide after school tutoring in conjugation with the Math Department.
A classroom teacher, special area teacher (i.e. science, music, art), parents or administration may refer a student to the resource program for assessment. A referred student will be evaluated based on classroom performance, tests scores, and informal assessment. The resource teacher, classroom teacher, and parents work together closely to provide the optimum conditions for success once a student has been identified and placed. Tutoring Schedule to be Posted
