The Visual Arts program St. Mary School offers students not only knowledge of skills and history, but it gives them a great opportunity to build their confidence in seeing the fruits of their talents.
The Visual Arts Program is:
Comprehensive
Students from Kindergarten through Eighth Grade have hands-on Visual Arts experience in the St. Mary School Art Studio. As students create individual masterpieces they explore art foundations like color, form, composition, value and perspective. As they explore their own creativity and self-expression through the arts, they also trace the historical development of art, and learn to make sound, critical judgments about the quality and success of works of art.
Integrated
Art is integrated with other aspects of our curriculum. As students progress through the program, more emphasis is placed on the historical aspect of art, paralleling the period they are learning in History class. A paper is required in eighth grade on an artist of the student’s choice. Our integrated religion curriculum is demonstrated as students reflect upon the spiritual inspiration of great works of art, and learn to see the reflection of God in all created works.
