In the Special Buddies program younger students are paired up with older, wiser mentors from the upper grades. Kindergarteners enjoy the company of sixth graders, the first graders are matched with seventh graders, and second graders spend time with eighth graders. In this way, the buddy program unifies the St. Mary School community, and breaks down barriers of age and grade level. | | |
Each buddy group gets together periodically to work together on crafts, science projects or schoolwork that may require the assistance of an older mind. | | This program has been and continues to be a huge success! Each student develops a bond with his or her buddy. They share stories, exchange gifts, provide a listening ear and more! The buddy program gives younger students someone to look up to. And it gives our older students a boost in self-esteem that comes from being a mentor. All that participate experience a sense of total community within our school. |
