Paula Christian – Visions and Goals
Paula introduced herself and shared her visions and goals for the upcoming year for the Parents’ Club.  She would like to further what has been achieved thus far; she is focused on getting things done and communicating.

She shared the responsibilities for each officer with the group and then facilitated the filling of the following positions with volunteers present:

Staff Appreciation – Diana McKechnie

Volunteer Coordinator – Debra Daly

Room Parent Coordinator – Brandi-Lyn Vedder

New Parent Coordinator – Lisa Delaney

Laura Allen

Laura thanked Paul Vasquez for his work as President and thanked the rest of the Board for their work.  She encouraged us to ask other parents for their participation and involvement, as well.

She shared with us that 2004 was the last WASC accreditation and WCEA accreditation.  In 2004, St. Mary’s was accredited for the next six years.  In February or March 2010, St. Mary’s will be reviewed again.  For this accreditation, achieving the maximum level of six years, as St. Mary’s did in 2004, will be more difficult.  Laura hopes to use the 2008/2009 school year as the writing year, based on the feedback gathered from the focus groups and analyzed against the recommendations from the 2004 accreditation.  The Parents’ Club Board will need to be members of several committees to help with the process; everyone – parents, teachers and students – are stakeholders in this process and should be represented on each committee.  Paula Christian, Dorothy Wullenwaber, Laura Allen, Donna Nelson, Larry White, Pat Durham will serve on the Leadership Committee during this process.

Laura asked that the Parents’ Club address the status and needs of WASC/WCEA each month.  She also advised that a Strategic Planning Committee will be needed to compare the 2005 plan to parent feedback.  She shared she wanted to make changes as needed and to document the progress achieved.

The Parents’ Club can also help other parents to understand WASC/WCEA and the importance of the accreditation to St. Mary’s.  The accreditation gives confirmation that St. Mary’s provides a quality Catholic education.  She explained that the teachers will have one to two days after school each week to work on WASC sub-committees.

Nancy Smith-Fagan

Nancy asked that we recognize and thank Paul Vasquez for his work and leadership as the 2007/2008 Parents Club President.

Dorothy Wullenwaber

Dorothy asked that we recognize and thank Nancy Smith-Fagan for her help and support throughout the year.

Parent Club Calendar
Dorothy shared that potential chairs had been identified based on the Access Database used during Registration; thank you to Marjorie Duffy for developing the database.  She recommended that we identify Parents’ Club liaisons and chairs for each event and advise Jaime Delgadillo prior to the start of school.

For the upcoming Parish Festival, the Parents’ Club will host Bingo.  Paul Vasquez will chair the committee and Debra Daly will assist if needed.  The committee will be responsible for set up, working the game on the day of the Festival and take down.

Jaime Delgadillo

Jaime provided a summary of the 2007/2008 year’s activities and financial status.  Included in the report is historical date for each event.  Mary Rhea Breen asked that the Mother/Daughter event in 2008 be re-identified as the Mother/Daughter Game Night.  The Harvest Festival is not called the Halloween Dinner due to feedback.

Jaime shared the at the “*” indicates there is additional detail to the line item which can be provided if requested; the detail report will go to each of this year’s chairs.

We agreed to review the Fun/Friend raisers at the beginning of the school year.

We agreed that the meeting minutes prior to approval will be posted to the school website and designated as pending.  The minutes will be sent to Paul Christian for preliminary approval and then to Nancy Smith-Fagan, Renee Becker, Laura Allen and the Parents’ Club Board.  Andrea Wurm will also receive a copy to post the pending minutes to the school website.

The next Parents’ Club Board meeting will be in August, with the date to be determined.

Respectfully submitted,

Teresa Froehlich

Secretary
